Day 30 – Maputo
Blog, Photos — By Buspass on October 21, 2012 8:05 pmWe took the rust bucket ferry across the estuary. It was overflowing with humanity. And there we were in Maputo. It is quite the filthiest, smelliest , most overcrowded place on the planet. I have never set eyes on such a place…..huge piles of refuse everywhere, the smell of rotting fish and open sewers, decay everywhere, all the infrastructure that presumably the Portugese built has been left to rot and degrade. Extraordinary that the plague does not wipe it out as it did with London.
But all in all a fascinating day, some fabulous riding and believe it or not we rode for 13 hours starting at 6.30am, had no lunch stop and fell short of our destination by over 200 kilometres!!!!! Its going to be a long one tomorrow. J
- On the ferry finally!!
