Day Five

Blog — By on September 26, 2012 1:59 pm

Real Africa for the first time today…..away from farming country in the morning to the vastness of the Klein Karoo this afternoon.

We crossed our first serious pass the Rooiberg Pass…no falling to the right!!

Over the summit the climate and vegetation changed instantly. It is now hot and arid. All vents are open and those in black are frying!!

A couple of dead puff adders and a jackal on the trail, and a varity of birdlife…Red Bishop, Hadida Ibis, Black Headed Heron to name but a few, water mongoose, tortoise etc etc

2 bikes with clutch issues, others fine.

And for the bikers: the roads have deteriorated significantly today, some water damage, loose stones, some white clay….paradise, just fabulous biking.

We are hoping they keep getting worse!

Wow – it all sounds amazing. Think you should upload the photo of the 2 runners with their new little friends! Emily and James loved it!

Emily (age 5) says that she misses Grandpa and hopes he has found some new friends to practice snakes and ladders with!

    Happy biking everyone

If you want serious biking go up the Swartberg pass and turn off the small road down to “Die Hel” just before the top (or after if you come from Outdhoorn direction..
Also if you pass thru Plett take the prince Alfred Pass road and you have a nice manageable paas that can get you back on the road to PE if you want ot Graff Reinett if you want to see a typical old Cape town
    Hamba Khathle!

Tea and cakes in Jail now your talking!. Hope the girls enjoy the cakes and the boys are eating plenty of protein (dead puff adders,a jackal and a Red Bishop sound tasty to say nothing of the water mongoose!). The Biking sounds fun, especially viewed from the safety of a comfy chair fixed firmly to the floor!
