Day 4 – “In Search of Leopard”

Blog — By on November 22, 2012 1:10 pm

By far the most elusive of the Big Five is the Leopard.
These beautiful animals are very solitary and independent, which makes finding them a challenge.
Hunting has had a big impact on their numbers, but Botswana is focused on conservation and numbers have begun to recover from a low base.
There is an opinion amongst guides that the leopard is only seen when it wants to be!
Anyway, armed with the knowledge from Kane that there were leopard at Kings Pool, we decided to devote a day to trying to find them.
We searched everywhere. We found plenty of tracks, some very fresh. We went “off track” into the deepest bush, but we had no luck.
We had a great day and saw lots of other wonderful wildlife, but the leopard remained as elusive as ever.

On returning to Kings Pool, our mood was not lifted when we heard that at Savuti, a neighbouring camp, they had observed mating leopard, another leopard kill an impala and various other sightings!

Such is safari…….you never know what’s around the corner.
