Day 1 Sleeping with Scorpions.

The safari omens were good. Our late afternoon arrival at Kings Pool airstrip was augmented by a fully grown male cheetah lying by the runway. The planes didn’t seem to bother him one bit. He posed quite happily in the evening sun, seeming to enjoy the intense interest that his presence generated.
Gobby, DD, Butch, Aime, Charlotte & Sophie + Kane were on safari at Kings Pool in the Okavango Delta.
The humidity had been building all day and during the night the inevitable storm broke. It was very localised and intense.
The storm generated some very strong winds. Unhappily, the heavy front doors to the sleeping quarters didn’t cope. Many guests awoke during the night to find their front doors wide open to the bush!
For Charlotte and Sophie in Room 8, this unfortunate situation presented them with the challenge of dealing with a rather large scorpion that had wandered in to their room.
Having been the recipients of the HTFU award in Singita Lebombo, they decided to “man up” and deal with the intruder themselves.
Suffice to say, that it was a dramatic chase involving shoes being thrown, plenty of “Doom” insecticide, some strong language and lots of courage on their part. They finally cornered the scorpion and trapped it underneath their laundry basket lid. They then piled books and towels on top, to ensure that it couldn’t escape, before retiring to bed exhausted and traumatised by the whole episode.
