Day Sixteen – The Climb – a day off!
Blog — By Buspass on October 7, 2012 10:26 pmAn early start for an assualt on the highest mountain in South Africa and Southern Africa…in fact the highest mountain South of Kilimanjaro.
We started at the lodge just shy of 3000m with a local sheep herder as a guide. I doubt he was more than 15 and came wrapped in a blanket and very large old wellies.
It was a very serious march. 9 hours pretty much non stop and a distance of 45 kilometres.
The wind speed at the summit must have been 90kph. It was a great day but took a lot out of us.
We have requested a reduction in the number of rest days as we can’t cope!
Oh and Shrek’s hands blew up to enormous proportions….Shrek himself would have been proud.
Early night now and a degree of trepidation as we have suddenly become enveloped in a thick blanket of wet cloud.
This is the last thing we need for a descent of Sani in the morning. J
