Day 22 – Cobra.
Blog — By Buspass on October 13, 2012 8:51 pmAnother day spent on foot in the bush in Umfolozi. A good breakfast,a packed sandwich lunch and off we went. The river was too swollen to cross after the night’s rain so we stayed on the left bank. Believe it or not through the course of the day we saw 38 rhino of which 4 were quite close up. They did eventually become aware of our presence and retreated. We subsequently did get a shock however after we had circumvented their position when they came charging past us in the thick bush. Our paths had obviously taken a similar course and then we had surprised them again. It was a mother and calf so it could have been a slightly different story! Next on the agenda was a Gobby favourite, yes a snake. It was a Mozambique Spitting Cobra, and yes it did spit. Quite a sighting. We saw a range of game including zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, wild dogs and hyena. J
