COBRA!
Blog — By shrek on October 7, 2012 3:29 pmNever mind mountain passes with thousand foot drop-offs or charging black rhinos, for me at least, Thursday 4th October will remain indelibly stamped on my DNA following a close encounter with an indecisive cape cobra. I was riding about 50 mtrs behind Greg and Sam when I saw a huge snake crossing the road in front of them. Travelling left to right with its head held high and its hood clearly visible, it was obviously going to have crossed safely to the verge by the time I arrived. Greg and Sam both rode safely behind and to the left of it and I was all set to follow when for some reason this fine two metre specimen of one of southern Africa’s most poisonous snakes decided to turn round and go back towards the left hand verge. Well let me tell you I nearly s#*¥ myself! God knows how but somehow I avoided running it over .
The three of us leapt off our bikes and went looking in the verge to get a photo but alas (perhaps for the best) there was nothing to be seen. Best bit was when Gobby arrived on the scene and when learning why we had stopped, exclaimed ‘what the €$~• are you doing looking for it you bloody idiots?”
