Day 38 – Warthogs.
Blog — By Buspass on October 29, 2012 7:46 amAfter the Portugese colonials were kicked out in the 1970’s civil war raged for 25 years in Mozambique. It eventually settled down. But places like the Gorongosa National Park were ravaged. Most of the animals were slaughtered. Previously the haunt of Clint Eastwood and many Hollywood stars it fell into the wrong hands.
Today it is in rehab. The plains are teeming with life although very bizarrly there are literally thousands, almost herds, of warthogs. Because there are no predators. No lion virtually, no leopard, no cheetah and no hyenas. It will be awhile before it become a sensible balanced ecosystem again.
That said 25 new species of birds today!! Now up to 250 on the trip so far. J
